No.22 - 14 fret Acoustic in Lacewood

This is the latest of Laurie's guitars, finished recently in 2023 in my Ilminster workshop. The back and sides are of beautiful Lacewood (London Plane) and the instrument has an outstanding sensitivity with a bright tone and great projection. The soundboard is first quality Italian Spruce, and the fingerboard, bridge and headstock are in ebony. The soundhole rosette is inlaid with abalone. The finish is waterborne satin lacquer which gives a beautiful lustre and enhances the delightful patterns of the lacewood. The guitar is fitted with a K&K Pure Mini passive pickup which delivers a clear and true acoustic sound when amplified.

A rare chance to buy a Laurie Guitar without commissioning a new-build, this guitar needs to be played to appreciate its tone and playability.

On sale for £1200.

No.19 - 14 fret acoustic in Rosewood

This guitar was built in my Fivehead (Somerset) workshop during lockdown in 2019-2020. The back and sides are made of Indian Rosewood and the waist of the instrument is somewhat wider than my normal "Torres" shape. This gives the guitar a powerful bass, along with bright trebles, especially when strumming. The soundboard is made of Italian "bearclaw" spruce with the bridge and fingerboard being constructed of ebony. The soundhole rosette is inlaid with green Paua shell.

By way of experiment I used guitar oil finish which has produced deep colouration in the wood, but a more matte finish than my other guitars, which are usually lacquered.

This guitar has been SOLD.

No.16 - 12 fret acoustic in Yew

Construction of this guitar was started in my Bristol workshop, but was completed in Fivehead (Somerset) in 2017. It was an experimental guitar in that it has a 12-fret neck and is made of English Yew - a tree that grew in Westonburt Aboretum. The pale coloured sapwood makes an interesting stripe down the back, contrasting with the yellow/orange heartwood. The guitar also has a slotted headstock instead of the conventional Laurie Guitars design with Grover machine heads. The soundhole rosette and purflings have a simpler, plai design than usual.

The resulting instrument gives a bright sound which suits fingerpicking styles, but has less bass than other models.

This guitar is open to offers around £700.
